Christ-like behavior, praise and positive reinforcement are effective methods of the behavior management of children. When children receive positive, non-violent, and understanding interactions from adults and others, they develop good self-concepts, problem-solving abilities, self-discipline and good Christian values. Based on this Christ-like belief we at St. John's Lutheran Preschool, will practice the discipline and behavior management techniques as stated in our Discipline and Behavior Management Policy.

Keeping in mind that not all centers meet every child's needs, we will follow guidelines for behavioral concerns:

1. Our first communication will be orally or a written note about repeated behavioral concerns with your child.
2. If the behavior continues, we will request a parent meeting with the parents, director, and teacher. We will discuss strategies to be used at the preschool and at home to work with behavioral concerns. Parent participation and cooperation is essential.
3. The teacher will keep open communication with the parents as to whether the behavior is improving. If we are still having behavioral concerns at this point, family counseling may be recommended.
4. As a last resort, if lack of parental participation is apparent, or if the child shows no improvement within a reasonable time, parents may be asked to take the child out of the preschool.
